AXIS COMMUNICATIONS PUTS THE POWER OF LIVE WEB VIDEO IN A SINGLE BOX
June 01 1999г. Woburn, USA

All-in-one solution offers cost-effective, simple method to transmit video over any network.

Вобурн, США - Июнь 1, 1999 - Axis Communications, Inc. is now shipping the AXIS 2400 video server, a self-contained thin server designed to make live network/Internet video powerful, easy and low-cost. Capable of transmitting live, high-quality Motion JPEG images up to 30 frames per second, it brings real-time video transmission over any network including the Internet to a remote PC for instant viewing. Images can be automatically sent to a Web page, a remote PC or stored in the internal buffer.

To install, users attach up to four video sources to the AXIS 2400, then directly connect the video server to a 10/100MB Ethernet network, assign it a TCP/IP address, and, using any PC, employ the built-in installation Wizards to do simple configuration and customization of user applications. To use, they launch their favorite Web browser (such as Netscape or Internet Explorer) on any PC, type in the assigned IP address and instantly they are able to view live video and control the AXIS 2400. The product is easily integrated with existing camera systems such as CCTV surveillance systems, and has built in control for many popular Pan/Tilt/Zoom units through its two serial ports. In addition, these units can be programmed to automatically change camera positions or can be controlled manually by a user friendly point-and-click interface. Furthermore, all video sources can be viewed simultaneously.

With a retail price of $1,799, the AXIS 2400 breaks the price/performance barrier of alternative solutions. Unlike traditional video transmission systems, the AXIS 2400 is a one-box solution. No additional computer hardware, software or cabling is required, further reducing the solution cost as there are considerably lower installation and maintenance costs.

"Until now video transmission systems have been in the dark ages, requiring expensive server-based applications and installation of additional software or browser plug-ins," said Brendan Daly, business development manager for the Axis Camera Division. "With its single box design the AXIS 2400 allows users to take advantage of cutting edge network/Internet technology and use their existing PCs and software to view live video from anywhere in the world at half the cost."

A Flexible Solution for Any Remote Monitoring or Web Video Applications

The AXIS 2400 video server is ideal for virtually any network/Internet based application where close to real-time video is needed. These include Web page enhancement such as traffic surveillance and live event broadcasting, as well as remote monitoring, security systems, alarms verification, manufacturing plants, process monitoring and remote image archiving.

The AXIS 2400 can be completely automated and send images at specified times or by triggered events via its four inputs and one output. The AXIS 2400's serial ports support key industry standards, such as RS232, RS485, and RS422 protocols and its four coax inputs support both NTSC and PAL video.

Pricing and Availability

The AXIS 2400 video server has a suggested list price of $1,799 and is available now through Ingram Micro, Tech Data, ADI, Richardson and Visual Security.

ThinServerT Technology Forms the Backbone

The AXIS 2400 video server implements Axis' own ThinServerT Technology, which integrates all network functionality into the device itself. It is based on the Axis ARTPEC-1, the industry's first dedicated chip for network surveillance and remote monitoring.

As a result, the product does not need a network file server to provide network access to the various cameras connected to the AXIS 2400 video server. Axis' ThinServer Technology combines embedded, streamlined versions of major operating systems such as Windows NT, NetWare, OS/2 and UNIX, optimized 32-bit RISC hardware and an open Web-based management platform.
