NDS installationWhat will the StorPoint CD server do to the NDS tree? These are the steps the StorPoint CD server goes through to install itself into the NDS tree: 1. Finding the tree Finding the tree The StorPoint CD server will find the tree using SAP or SLP. The StorPoint CD server will choose the NDS server closest to itself and connect to it. 2. Find admin user and log in The next step is to log in as the user specified in the NDSAdminName parameter. This login process is exactly the same thing as logging in from a client workstation. 3. Schema extension If you have chosen to store rights in the tree, the StorPoint CD server will connect to the server holding the master replica of [Root] and read the current schema defined for the 'NCP Server' object. If the schema has not been extended with the attribute AXIS:SPcd:rights, the StorPoint CD server will continue to add this attribute. This process requires that the NDSAdminName contains a user that has Supervisor rights to the [Root] object of the tree. If you don't have Supervisor rights to the [Root] or if schema extensions are not allowed in your NDS tree, you can store access rights in a local file on the StorPoint or in a file on a NetWare file server placed in the same organizational unit as the StorPoint. 4. Find server context Next step is to find the container where the StorPoint CD server object should
be created. The StorPoint CD server will verify that the admin user has sufficient
rights to create objects in this container. Check if the server object already
exists The StorPoint CD server will then check if there is already an object with
the same name as the one we want to create. If the object already exists, the
installation process will be aborted (Unless ▒forced▓ 5. Create new server object and volume object The StorPoint then creates an object of class 'NCP Server' and a volume object pointing to the SYS volume on the StorPoint. 6. Create encryption keys and write them to server object This operation is the same as used when changing a password for a user. It
writes the new public key and The installation is complete.
