DFE-570TX 4-Port Server Adapter

The DFE-570TX works like a single network adapter being replaced with an array of 4 adapters. The server sees one logical interface to the network. DFE-570TX provides both dynamic failover and load balancing.

By load balancing network traffic over multiple network adapters, DFE-570TX both increased throughput and dynamic failover to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at the server and to insure that the server is always available to the network.

Performance Benefits

DFE-570TX load-balancing software distributes traffic across multiple network adapters on the server. The software assigns connections to different adapters in a round-robin fashion as users access the server. This process effectively broadens bandwidth by a factor equal to the number of adapters on the server. To the server, these multiple adapters appear as a single network interface. To the workstation, the server appears immediately available without the delay of congestion typical during high-access periods.

Fault Tolerance Benefits

DFE-570TX offers non-stop performance through dynamic failover. Mission-critical tasks has created an increased need for reliability and resiliency, availability of the server is critical.

DFE-570TX helps eliminate network port or adapter failure by providing dynamic failover across multiple redundant connections to the network. When a failure occurs between the port and switch due to a bad cable or failed adapter, DFE-570TX will take that port out of the array and dynamically balance the traffic across the remaining adapters without missing a packet.

DFE-570TX failover technology detects lost links, bad network adapters, or bad cable connections. When one of these conditions is encountered, DFE-570TX will take the problem adapter out of the array and redistribute the traffic across the remaining NIC's in the array. An event sent to the NT event log and an SNMP trap is generated to notify the appropriate personnel immediately of the failure. Since the server connections are maintained, users will not be affected by the failure and the server can remain online until repair can be scheduled when it would not affect users.

After the repair is made or if the failed connection were to come back on line, DFE-570TX will automatically add the adapter back into the array.

With the advent of Hot Plug PCI technology, one can now hot swap PCI adapters without downing the server. With DFE-570TX software and HOT Plug PCI buses, one can provide true non-stop service connections to clients.
